Ann Healey Born: 1972 United Kingdom
Ann Healey received a First Class degree in the combined studies of Fine Art Painting and Mathematics from Liverpool University after completing her Foundation Course at Central Saint Martins. She has held thirteen solo exhibitions around Asia as well as taking part in numerous group shows in galleries including the Singapore Art Museum and The Esplanade. She has also been commissioned by international brands from F1 Night Race, Singapore to the Ritz-Carlton Millenia, Singapore.
Her 'SexPop' series explores the domain of the female gaze, focusing on re-presentation and ownership of the female form from a female perspective. The point of departure is the capture of a moment of emotion, real or contrived, from an adult film. The reality of the origins of the disparate images becomes blurred and the original film still sits within a new frame of reference whilst retaining its necessary truth. Her work presents a challenge to socially manufactured parameters that place different forms of work within fabricated hierarchies. Viewers are not invited to consume the image, but to be consumed by it, in a moment of paramnesia.
